Here is a vital new job-search approach customized for people over forty, from the author of60 Seconds & You're Hired!

With unemployment hitting all-time highs, the over-forty crowd is struggling to land new jobs. But America's top career counselor, Robin Ryan, is here to help them jump-start their careers. Ryan's market-tested program tells how to effectively stand out and appeal to employers amid age discrimination and a flood of competition. She inspires listeners to tap into the "hidden job market" where eighty percent of all jobs are found, explains how to create targeted r├®sum├®s and master the interview, and outlines how to overcome any age-related stereotypes they may encounter in their job hunt.

Ryan has created a guide of valuable advice and detailed explanations culled from over twenty years of experience as a career counselor that people over forty will find indispensable as they look for work.

      Ryan (60 Seconds & You're Hired!
) offers authoritative advice for the over-40 job hunter, and in the process supplies tips that would be useful for anyone (or everyone, these days) looking for work. Addressing those entering the job market after a hiatus—those recently laid off from a long-term position or who have been staying home with children— she cautions, “Times have changed, and you must, too.” With suggestions gleaned from a survey of 600 hiring managers across the country, Ryan emphasizes the computer and Internet proficiencies universally demanded, shares tools for job searching online, advises job candidates to get a makeover to look more professional, and—in the book's most useful sections—shows how to fine-tune a résumé (she advises that each résumé and cover letter be tailored to the particular job and that the job title be explicitly listed in a “career objective” line). Her suggestions are candid, sensible, and refreshingly specific. With actual examples of résumés and cover letters, a résumé quiz and a companion Web site with salary tools and other online resources, this book is essential reading for job seekers.

Career counselor Ryan (www.robinryan.com), best-selling author of "60 Seconds & You're Hired!" (2009)also available from Blackstone Audiohere targets a spectrum of job seekers, sharing useful tips for stay-at-home moms returning to the workforce, recently fired executives, those looking to switch career paths, and others. The author herself reads, slowly and deliberately, periodically directing listeners to her web site, where they can view sample cover letters and rsums and order her other books. Though the audio is conveniently divided into three-minute tracks, it is difficult to absorb Ryan's many suggestions without stopping regularly to take notes. Thus, this edition is recommended only for those who prefer audiobooks over print or for those who have difficulty reading; otherwise, the Penguin pb and/or ebook editions are the better reference-tool choice.
